Dallas, TX – Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was booked into a city jail Thursday after testing positive for marijuana, a violation of the troubled lineman's bail on an intoxication manslaughter charge for last December's car accident that killed a former teammate.
According to court records, Brent failed a drug test on June 19 that was sent to a toxicology lab for further analysis, with the results confirmed on Tuesday. The positive sample violates a previous court order requiring Brent to have an interlock device installed on his vehicle.
Brent is still awaiting trial on the intoxication manslaughter allegations, as well as a driving while intoxicated charge, stemming from the December 8 crash that killed Jerry Brown, a linebacker on the Cowboys' practice squad at the time and Brent's former college teammate at Illinois. He was freed on a $100,000 bond.
The 25-year-old ended the 2012 regular season on the reserve/non-football illness list as a result of injuries from the crash and is likely facing a suspension from the NFL for violating the personal conduct policy, though the league has yet to rule on the matter.
Brent started five games in place of an injured Jay Ratliff at nose tackle last season and recorded 22 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks over 12 overall contests in 2012.
