Report: Strasburg has 'irritation' in right arm

Washington, DC – Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg is reportedly dealing with irritation in his right arm.

Strasburg pitched six innings during Monday's game against Atlanta and was seen shaking his right arm after some pitches during the outing. Nationals manager Davey Johnson said after the game that Strasburg had some tightness in his forearm.

After the 3-2 loss, in which Strasburg did not factor into the decision, the right-hander said he would not miss a start.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo was quoted by the Washington Post on Tuesday as saying Strasburg has "irritation" in his right forearm and has no structural problems. Rizzo also said the issue is in no way related to the Tommy John surgery he underwent in 2010.

Strasburg has struggled somewhat this season in six starts, posting a record of just 1-4 with a 3.13 ERA. He was 15-6 with a 3.16 ERA in 28 starts last year before being shut down for an innings limit.
