Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson is set to return for Thursday night's game against Washington after missing more than two months because of an Achilles injury.

Karlsson suffered a 70 percent cut to his left Achilles tendon when the skate of Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke clipped him during the second period of a Feb. 13 game. He underwent surgery soon after and was expected to be sidelined for at least three months.

Instead, the reigning Norris Trophy winner will return early as the Senators try to wrap up a playoff spot with just three games remaining.

Karlsson had a team-high six goals and four assists in 14 games before the injury.
