Miami, FL – The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly acquired veteran infielder Hanley Ramirez from the Miami Marlins.
Several media sources reported the deal late Tuesday night that the Dodgers will also receive left-handed reliever Randy Choate from the Marlins in exchange for left-handed starter Nathan Eovaldi and minor-league pitcher Scott McGough.
The 28-year-old Ramirez is a three-time All-Star who is batting .246 with 14 homers and 48 RBI in 93 games this season playing third base. However, by going to the Dodgers he could play shortstop or third base. Shortstop is a position where Ramirez spent the first seven seasons of his career.
A position change to shortstop for Ramirez could be made possible due to the injury to Dee Gordon. He's on the disabled list with an ulnar collateral ligament tear of his right thumb.
Ramirez, the 2006 NL Rookie of the Year and 2009 NL batting champion with the Marlins, is signed through the 2014 season and is due to make $15.5 million next year and $16 million in the final year of his contract.
Choate is 0-0 with a 2.49 ERA in 44 relief appearances this season.
Eovaldi has compiled a 1-6 mark with a 4.15 ERA in 10 starts this year.
