Bronx, NY – The New York Yankees have placed pitcher Freddy Garcia on the bereavement list and recalled pitcher Ryota Igarashi from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Garcia's grandfather passed away in Venezuela. He will be away from the team for several days, according to the team.
Garcia is 0-2 with a 7.66 earned run average in 10 games (four starts) with the Yankees this year.
Igarashi, claimed on waivers from the Blue Jays on May 29, allowed four runs in two appearances for Toronto this season.
