Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo revealed Tuesday that captain John Terry will miss Wednesday's tilt against Manchester City at the Etihad after failing to recover from a knock he sustained against Napoli last week.

Terry was substituted late in Chelsea's dramatic win over the Italian side after injuring his knee and will now miss the club's epic clash against the Citizens, though Di Matteo is hopeful of the defender's return against Tottenham at the weekend.

"I expect [Terry] to be okay for Saturday, it's not serious, we were lucky he came back so early," admitted the Chelsea boss. "He's a crucial member of our team and good leader on the pitch.

"It's better when he's available but he'll be okay for Tottenham."

A Chelsea win against City would see the Blues go level with Arsenal in fourth place if the Gunners fail to take maximum points against Everton on Wednesday.
