DETROIT (AP) — Rookie second baseman Scott Sizemore and pitcher Max Scherzer have been demoted to the minors by the Detroit Tigers.

After a 12-inning victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night, the Tigers recalled pitcher Armando Galarraga and infielder Danny Worth from Triple-A Toledo. Sizemore and Scherzer were sent down.

Galarraga's promotion had been expected. He was already scheduled to start Sunday against Boston because of a doubleheader Wednesday against the New York Yankees. Now, the right-hander will replace Scherzer in the rotation.

Scherzer, acquired from Arizona in a three-team trade last offseason, is 1-4 with a 7.29 ERA.

Sizemore began the season as the everyday second baseman but is hitting just .206.
