Sen. Arlen Specter has apologized to Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann for telling her to "act like a lady" in a recent radio interview.
The Pennsylvania Democrat's office said in a written statement Sunday that Specter called the Minnesota Republican and "left messages on her home and cell phone apologizing for his comments."
Bachmann returned his calls and "accepted his apology," according to Specter's office.
The apology came after a tense on-air conversation Wednesday on Philadelphia's 1210 AM with host Dom Giordano.
At one point, Specter asked Bachmann to "stop interrupting," to which Bachmann responded, "I didn't interrupt you."
"Now, wait a minute, I'll stop and you can talk," Specter said. "I'll treat you like a lady. Now act like one."
"Well, I am a lady," Bachmann replied.
The two continued to bicker, and Specter again asked her to "act like a lady." She again said she was a lady.
"I think you are too, that's why I'm treating you like one," Specter said. "But just don't interrupt me."
