Poodle born without paws to be fitted with prosthetics

A four-year-old poodle that was born without all four paws will finally get the chance to walk normally with the help of prosthetics.

“Rabbit,” who currently struggles to walk and get around, is currently staying with Jessie Romer of Bliss Animal Haven, a special needs dog rescue organization in Loganville, Ga. She described him as “strong-willed,” to MyFoxAtlanta.com.

“To me, it’s just incredibly unique, never had a chance to take in a dog like him before. Never one with all four [legs] that were born this way, not formed,” Romer told MyFoxAtlanta.com.

Rabbit will be fitted with custom prosthetic paws from OrthoPets and fitted at the University of Georgia’s Veterinary Hospital next week.

“Little bionic extensions of where his legs end, they will come up over the joint because of course they have to be weight-bearing and secure,” Romer told MyFoxAtlanta.com.

Donations are covering the cost of his prosthetics, which can cost up to $1,500 per leg. Rabbit will also undergo rehabilitation therapy to help him adjust.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Romer said. “It’s nothing I’ve ever experienced in rescue, to see a dog go from being incredibly limited to hopefully being able to walk nearly normally in the next couple of months.”
