SHANGHAI – Gucci America has quit the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, the second defection since the Washington, D.C.-based group allowed Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba to become a member in April.
Michael Kors walked out of the IACC last month, calling Alibaba "our most dangerous and damaging adversary."
Gucci is suing Alibaba in U.S. court, accusing the company of knowingly profiting from the sale of counterfeits on its e-commerce platforms. Alibaba has dismissed the case as "wasteful litigation."
IACC vice-president Candice Li-Uzoigwe said Saturday that Gucci was "not happy about Alibaba joining."
She says: "We are standing by our position to bring intermediaries into the fold and work with them. There are many brands who continue to support us."
The IACC has over 250 members, including Apple, 21st Century Fox and Procter & Gamble.
