The Confederation of African Football has fined Morocco $1 million for failing to host the 2015 African Cup of Nations and banned the country from participating in the next two tournaments in 2017 and 2019.

CAF says it is also seeking around $9 million in damages from Morocco after it backed out of hosting the tournament.

Morocco declined to host the African championship on its scheduled dates, citing fears over the spread of Ebola, and asked CAF late last year for a delay. CAF refused and Equatorial Guinea stepped in to host the three-week tournament, which ends on Sunday.
