A father in India is facing murder charges after he invited his daughter’s alleged rapist to dinner and then tortured and killed the man, authorities say.
The 36-year-old father, who has not been identified, reportedly burned the 45-year-old man’s genitals with heated tongs and strangled him Friday, The Indian Express reported. The incident occurred in Delhi’s Khajuri Khas area.
In a statement to police, the father told authorities that two months ago, while he was away at work, a medicine supplier came to his home, found his 14-year-old daughter alone, and allegedly raped her.
After the man was killed, the father went to a local police station Sunday, surrendered himself and gave police details about what happened.
He told police he didn’t intend to kill the alleged attacker, but the idea that the man who he says impregnated his daughter would not get justice was too much to bear.
“I burned his genitals once, he screamed. I did it again, he shuddered. When I did it the third time..he did not move. He was dead…I did not want to kill him,” the father reportedly confessed.
The father said he did not approach police about the alleged attack, fearing “a bad name for his daughter.” He told police he cried after realizing the man was dead.
Police investigating the crime scene found the body of the supplier on the bed, with his hands and mouth tied with a towel, a police officer told the paper.
“The victim sustained burn injuries on his private parts and stomach. The body was sent for an autopsy,” the officer said.
The girl knew her alleged attacker, as the supplier lived in a rented apartment in the same building as the family and often took care of the children.
The father told police he had called the supplier to ask why he raped his daughter. Instead of showing remorse, the father said the supplier started to use offensive language.
Seeing the alleged attacker happy with his family while his daughter was suffering made him furious, he said.
Police say the father had been planning the murder since the day he found out about his daughter’s alleged rape, the day she told him it occurred. But the father has a different story—claiming he only discovered his daughter’s alleged attack a week ago, after doctors at a local hospital told him she was pregnant.
“She started complaining of morning sickness and dizziness. We took her to a doctor and we were told that she is pregnant. We were shocked,” the mother of the girl said.
The 14-year-old reportedly told her parents that the supplier took her to his room and raped her while her family was away.
“She stopped smiling. She stopped eating properly or going out with her friends,” the mother said.
Police say the father has been taken into custody.
