MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson has signed his one-year franchise tender for $13.952 million, coach Jeff Fisher says.

Fisher made the announcement Friday, three days after the Rams placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on their starting cornerback.

Johnson was third in the league with seven interceptions last season. He has started 33 games in four seasons with the Rams.

Johnson and the Rams still can negotiate on a long-term contract agreement until July 15.

The Rams elected to tag Johnson instead of fellow starting cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who is also an unrestricted free agent.

Starting safeties Mark Barron and Rodney MacLeod are also free agents, but general manager Les Snead has said he believes he can re-sign all four defensive backs.
