Kansas announced a 25-man recruiting class Wednesday that includes 18 players from junior colleges around the country.

Coach Charlie Weis says he'll take them because they are ready to play immediately for a program that finished 1-11 last season and 0-9 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks need talent, speed and playmakers at nearly every position.

The Jayhawks return 35 letter winners, but only 12 starters. The JUCO players should help, including defensive lineman Marquel Combs. Chris Martin, a transfer from City College of San Francisco and fellow four-star recruit, will join Combs on the defensive line.

Weis also nabbed a pair of three-star quarterbacks from Kansas City high schools: Jordan Darling of Shawnee Mission East and Montel Cozart of Bishop Miege.
