Cuban pole vaulter, Lazaro Borges, shattered his pole in a briefly scary accident in the qualifying rounds for the pole vault final.

Fiberglass shattered and flew into the air in the Cuban's first Olympic jump. Borges won a silver at last year's World Championship.

Borges attempted to jump 5.35 meters (17.5 feet) when the pole snapped in two making him crash to the ground.

Fortunately, he was not injured.

Cuba has won 7 medals in this year's games thus far including a silver medal for Yarisley Silva in the Women's Pole Vault.
