The world’s biggest newborn needs diapers designed for a 6-month-old.
According to Mexico's Social Security Institute, the biggest baby in the world was born last week in the border city of Juarez, across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas.
Named Dilan Aram, the babe gained his title by weighing in at 14 pounds and 8 ounces, the Norte de Juarez newspaper reported.
Born to the Hernandez Flores family, his parents weren’t prepared for such a large baby.
The newspaper reported they had already bought clothes for a newborn that will not fit their little man. And with four other children, the couple apparently does not even have enough money to buy the 6-month-old size diapers their baby needs.
"At first I was amazed, and frightened at the same time," the baby’s father, Cesar Hernandez told the newspaper. "Maybe he is ill, I thought, but my baby is big and healthy."
After the father lost his job over half a year ago, the family is asking for asking for donations, specifically clothes, diapers, and milk, that will accommodate their son’s girth.
"We are very happy, yet very concerned," Hernandez said. "How are we going to provide to all our children? We have no jobs and are at the mercy of the public good and their support. We certainly would appreciate that."
Along with baby Dilan, the couple are parents to 18-year-old Alberto, who is heading to college; Rodrigo, 10; Jennifer, 11; and Isaac, 9.
