An Albanian court has sentenced a Colombian to 15 years in prison for being part of an international drug ring.

The Tirana court on Wednesday said Cesar Augusto Pelaez Luis Triana, 37, who holds Colombian and Spanish citizenship, had acknowledged coming to Albania in 2014 to take a drug payment of up to 1 million euros ($1.13 million) to two Colombians waiting for him in Spain. He would be paid 200,000 euros.

The transfer failed after authorities confiscated 256 kilograms (565 pounds) of cocaine at a Montenegrin port, where it had been found in a container bringing bananas from Ecuador to an Albanian company.

Triana was arrested when trying to leave the country after learning of the confiscation.
