British Prime Minister David Cameron has met with Ukrainian politicians and promised to stand up for their people.

Cameron on Wednesday welcomed a delegation of Ukrainian politicians, including Vitali Klitschko, to his Downing Street office in London.

He told them Britain will "stand up very strongly for the Ukrainian people to determine their own future" and will "continue to send very tough messages about the unacceptability" of Russia's recent actions in Crimea.

Cameron still said he hopes the future will involve a "strong and positive" relationship with Russia.

After the meeting, Klitschko said the talks in London had focused on efforts to stabilize Ukraine.

Draped in a Ukrainian flag, he told demonstrators demanding action against Russia that "we expect support" from Britain.
