The peak of the heat wave occurred on Saturday when the temperature reached 40 C (104 F).
A cold front will move through southwest Australia on Tuesday and Wednesday bringing some relief to areas that sweltered for the past week.
While the heat relaxes in Western Australia, residents of South, Australia, Victoria and New South Wales will feel heat build this week.
The temperature will increase Tuesday through Thursday in Adelaide, South Australia, reaching a high of near 40 C (104 F) on Thursday. This would be the hottest day in the city since mid-January.
In Melbourne, Victoria, the heat will be primarily confined to Thursday; however, the temperature is expected to reach 39 C (102 F). This would also be the hottest day in Melbourne since mid-January.
Sydney will escape the worst of the heat this round as temperatures peak on Friday or Saturday in the lower 30s C (88-92 F).
