West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Balanced scoring and terrific free throw shooting helped No. 11 Maryland leave Mackey Arena with a 69-60 win over Purdue on Saturday.

Jake Layman led four Terrapins in double figures with 14 points. Dez Wells added 13 points while Melo Trimble and Richaud Pack each scored 11.

Maryland (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten), which lost to Illinois on Wednesday to absorb its first ever Big Ten loss, bounced back by hitting 27-of-31 from the stripe to pull off the important road win.

Kendall Stephens paced the Boilermakers (10-7, 2-2) with 14 points, and Rapheal Davis gave 12 in their second straight loss.

"We have to be able to take care of the ball, especially against a good team like Maryland," said Davis.

The Boilermakers only scored six points over the first nine-plus minutes of the first half before doubling their output with six straight points, three from Stephens and three from Davis.

Later in the first half, Jon Octeus and Isaac Haas both converted three-point plays around two technical free throws by Stephens to give Purdue its first lead. The 8-0 run made it 24-21, and it was tied at 26 at halftime.

After trailing 30-29 early in the second half, four in a row from Wells gave Maryland a lead that it wouldn't relinquish.

It led by three with 5 1/2 minutes left when Pack's driving layup sparked a 6-0 run. Purdue countered with the next five following a pair of Trimble turnovers, but Wells knocked down two free throws then found Jon Graham for a layup, giving the Terps a 63-55 advantage with 2:21 to play.

Wells went 3-of-4 from the line and Layman sank a pair in the last 24 seconds.
