Detroit, MI – The Oakland Athletics activated pitcher Brett Anderson from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday and the left-hander recorded his first career save in a 14-4 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Anderson gave up five hits and three runs over the final three innings in only the second relief appearance of his career.
He went 1-4 with a 6.21 earned run average in six games (five starts) before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 1 with a sprained right ankle. Anderson was diagnosed with a stress fracture of his right foot on May 17 and was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 14.
Over three rehab starts with Double-A Midland, Sacramento and Single-A Stockton, Anderson went a combined 0-2 with a 12.54 ERA.
The A's opened a roster spot for Anderson by optioning pitcher Tommy Milone to Triple- A Sacramento.
Milone made the A's Opening Day roster and went 9-9 with a 4.39 ERA in 22 starts before being optioned to Sacramento on Aug. 3. He was recalled by Oakland on Aug. 18 and went 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA in two starts, giving the southpaw a 10-9 overall record and a 4.28 ERA in 24 starts this season.
