EU says Greek bailout inspectors poised to return to Athens

BRUSSELS – The European Union's top economy official says he's hopeful Greece's bailout inspectors will soon be dispatched to Athens to complete a review of the Greek government's adherence to its bailout commitments.

Pierre Moscovici, the European commissioner for economic affairs, said Monday the so-called mission chiefs "could and should return to Athens with the prospect of concluding the review as fast as possible."

Arriving for a meeting of the eurozone's 19 finance ministers, Moscovici said he thinks "we will come to a unanimous decision to send the mission chiefs back to Athens."

In return for money to avoid going bankrupt, the Greek government has to meet a series of commitments. A successful review will pave the way for discussions on how to reduce Greece's debt burden and release more bailout cash.
