Iraqi officials say a car bombing in a Baghdad neighborhood has killed eight people and wounded 20.

Police officials say the parked car exploded near a vegetable market in the Iraqi capital's southeastern neighborhood of al-Ameen on Monday.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, which also damaged several cars.

Medical officials confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Baghdad has for years seen near-daily attacks targeting Iraqi security forces, government officials and civilians by car bombs, suicide bombings and roadside explosions.

Many of the larger attacks have been claimed by the Sunni militant Islamic State group, an al-Qaida splinter group that has captured a third of Iraq since its blitz last year.
