Police say gunmen have shot and wounded a U.S. citizen in the Pakistani port city of Karachi.

Police officer Pir Muhammad Shah says four men shot at Debra Lobo, a physician, as she drove to work at a medical college on Thursday. He says Lobo is married to a Pakistani and has been living in the city for over 30 years. She was hospitalized with two bullet wounds.

Shah says a pamphlet found in her car claims the attackers belong to the Islamic State group.

Several Pakistani militants have sworn allegiance to the IS group, but it's unclear whether they have operational links to the leadership in Iraq and Syria.

The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
