British police arrest 2 women on suspicion of terrorism

LONDON – British police say they have arrested two women in London on suspicion of terrorism offenses.

Scotland Yard said officers arrested a 26-year-old woman at Heathrow Airport early Thursday as she was preparing to board a plane to Istanbul, Turkey. The force said a "large quantity" of cash was seized.

A second woman, 27, was arrested at an address in northwest London later on the same day. Both women are in police custody and police said they are searching two addresses in London in relation to the arrests.

Scotland Yard said the pair is suspected of being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorism, but the arrests weren't in response to any immediate threat.
