Looking to book a hotel and order those shoes at the same time?

Amazon.com, the largest online company in the U.S., is branching out into travel by featuring hotel bookings, according to Skift.

The e-commerce giant reportedly is initially teaming up with independent hotels and resorts around New York, Los Angeles and Seattle.

The new service –planned to launch in January 1, 2015 --would enable hotels to post room availability, pictures, and pricing information into its database.  The properties would reportedly be listed at published rates (most expensive), but discounts would be available. Amazon would notify the hotels about bookings and then take a 15 percent commission.

Amazon has been reportedly looking for hotels to join the service over the past weeks.

Skift notes that Amazon is targeting independent hotels and resorts rather chains that dominate the U.S. market, and that the service has the potential to be a "disruptive force" in the travel industry due to its ability to pair information about a traveler’s intent with retail offers.
