Wildlife family portraits: Cutest animal mothers and babies of Africa

A safari trip can be an exciting adventure-- especially when you come face to face with animal families. Like miniature versions of their parents, only fuzzier and more playful, it is a thrill to see the animal babies of Africa cavort under the protective eye of mother.

Founded in 1998, the African Safari Company specializes in small group travel and custom safaris for those seeking a more independent adventure off the beaten path.

Julia Nesbitt, a wildlife photographer, shares some of her favorite snaps that showcase animal mothers and babies looking their cutest.

Scheduled your Tanzania safari for mid-February to see the Great Migration, huge herds of wildebeest and zebra, as they gather to calve in the Southern Serengeti. Kenya’s Maasai Mara is well known for fantastic lion and cheetah families while South Africa’s Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve has some of the best leopard-spotting on the planet.
