Stunning travel photos to spark wanderlust

Looking for a little inspiration to spark your wanderlust? These award-winning images from the international Travel Photographer of the Year awards will spark up some excitement.

From a colorful night sky illuminated by Northern Lights to a tiny Japanese Macaque covered with snow crystals, these snapshots showcase some of the world's most unique travel treasures.

Now in its 11th year, the awards highlight work from both amateur and professional photographers around the globe. Winners are selected by a panel of experts, including photographers Eamonn McCabe and Chris Weston, the editor of Germany's FOTO magazine and the photography director of Condé Nast Traveller.

The top prize– the Cutty Sark Award for the Travel Photographer of the Year 2013 – went to British photographer Timothy Allen for his black and white images of the mud mosque re-plastering of a mud mosque in Djenne, Mali, and his studies of individuals in Wales and Bhutan.

Entries for the 2014 Travel Photographer of the Year awards close on October 1st.

These photographs and others are now on display in a free exhibition at the Royal Geographical Society in London through August 17th.
