The Carolina Panthers have struck a deal with their star linebacker just before the start of the 2015 NFL regular season.

According to Rand Getlin of the NFL Network, the Panthers and linebacker Luke Kuechly have agreed to a five-year, $62 million extension.

As Getlin explains, this now puts Kuechly in the record books when it comes to NFL contracts. It may also set a new bar contracts at the position.

Kuechly has been an absolute monster for the Carolina defense. He's made two Pro Bowls and has racked up an incredible 473 tackles since entering the league.

It's been a busy offseason for the Panthers, to say the least. The team has re-signed tight end Greg Olsen, quarterback Cam Newton, linebacker Thomas Davis and now Kuechly.
