The first headlines Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris made in the NFL was as a rookie in 2012, when the world learned of his ride -- his "Bentley."
Bentley is actually a 1991 Mazda 626 sedan which, at the time, Morris told the Redskins' official site contained sentimental value and "just keeps me grounded, (reminds me of) where I came from and all the hard work (it took) for me to get to this point."
At the time, Morris was a rookie sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic -- taken five rounds and 171 picks after Robert Griffin III. Staying grounded was certainly the way to go for a guy even most Redskin fans had never heard of when training camp began that year.
Fast forward three years and Morris has eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing and half a dozen touchdowns each season. His 3,962 yards and 28 scores on the ground are unquestionably the biggest highlights for a franchise that is mired in turmoil, largely because of that guy taken 171 picks before Morris.
And his ride now? Well, in 2013 Bentley got a makeover but was still Morris' hoopty. But now, finally, it appears Morris has ditched the Mazda … for this.
Yup, a bicycle. It seems there has to be an explanation (Bentley in the shop for a tune-up, perhaps?). But to date, Morris hasn't given one.
At least the Redskins open the season Sunday at home against the Dolphins, so if he needs the bike he doesn't have to pedal to South Beach.
