Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton is making up for lost time.

After missing most of his rookie season in 2013 due to injury, Wheaton opened his second year in the NFL with six catches for 97 yards. His 20-yard reception on Pittsburgh's final drive put the Steelers in range for Shaun Suisham's game-winning kick.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says he's not surprised by Wheaton's performance. Roethlisberger and Wheaton worked hard during offseason workouts and training camp to get him up to speed after Wheaton's bumpy rookie year. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley called Wheaton's ability to deliver in the clutch a huge bonus for the Steelers as they try to take some of the pressure off Pro Bowl wide receiver Antonio Brown.

The Steelers play in Baltimore on Thursday night.
