The New York Yankees activated designated hitter Travis Hafner off the 60-day disabled list and officially ended CC Sabathia's season on Wednesday, placing the ailing lefty on the 60-day DL.

Tests earlier this week revealed a Grade 2 left hamstring strain for Sabathia, who was hurt in last Friday's start against San Francisco. It's an injury that will require about eight weeks to heal. He finished a disappointing campaign just 14-13 with a career-worst 4.78 ERA in 32 starts.

Hafner has been recovering from a shoulder injury and hasn't played since July 26, the same day the Yankees acquired Alfonso Soriano from the Cubs.

In 81 games this season, Hafner has hit 12 home runs and driven in 37 runs. He was hitless in 15 at-bats after the All-Star break before going on the DL.
