Now that Tony Kanaan has an Indianapolis 500 title, he has a new goal — becoming the first driver in speedway history to win races in two different series.

The Brazilian IndyCar racer took his first laps in a Grand-Am car during Thursday's practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Kanaan isn't the first to try the feat. Indy pole winner Ed Carpenter and Wade Cunningham both won the Freedom 100, but have been winless in the 500. Juan Pablo Montoya won his 500 title as a rookie in 2000 and has been a regular at the Formula One and NASCAR races at Indy since then but has not returned to Victory Lane. Montoya will get his next chance this weekend in the annual Brickyard 400.
