Phoenix, AZ – Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp is back on the shelf.
The team placed Kemp on the 15-day disabled list Monday due to left AC joint inflammation. He appeared to injure the shoulder on a swing and was replaced by pinch-hitter Carl Crawford during the third inning of the Dodgers' 10-2 victory Friday night against the San Francisco Giants.
Kemp, who missed 24 games earlier this season due to a right hamstring strain, is hitting .254 with four homers and 24 RBI in 61 games this season.
The 28-year-old Kemp had surgery last October to repair a torn labrum in the same shoulder.
The Dodgers also put right-handed pitcher Stephen Fife on the 15-day DL with right shoulder bursitis. Fife has gone 3-3 with a 2.76 ERA in eight starts this season. He was on the DL from April 22-May 30 with the same injury.
To replace the roster spots, the Dodgers recalled outfielder Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque and added right-handed pitcher Ricky Nolasco to the active roster.
Van Slyke has batted .236 with six home runs and 13 RBI in 27 games this year. Nolasco, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins on Saturday, has made 18 starts this year and is 5-8 with a 3.85 ERA.
