Fiorentina's bid for a Champions League place got a boost on Saturday as the club got second-half goals from David Pizarro and Marcelo Larrondo in a 2-0 win over Atalanta.

The result moves the Viola to within three points of third-place AC Milan, which faces second-place Napoli on Sunday, while Atalanta fails to move into the top half of the league and remains in 13th place.

Atalanta started well and German Denis had a few chances to put his team on top, but that good start faded in the second half and Fiorentina took the lead just after the hour mark.

Guglielmo Stendardo was called for handling the ball inside his own penalty area, allowing Pizarro to beat goalkeeper Andrea Consigli from the spot.

Larrondo doubled the lead 11 minutes later with a powerful effort that gave Consigli no chance, while the home side finished the contest with 10 men after a late red card to Denis.

Siena 3, Pescara 2

Pescara, Italy - Innocent Emeghara's 86th-minute goal lifted Siena to a 3-2 win at Pescara on Saturday, moving the visitors three points clear of the drop zone and pushing Pescara closer to relegation.

Angelo scored in the 14th minute for Siena while Damiano Zanon's own goal put the home side in a 2-0 hole at the break.

But Pescara showed fight after halftime and was back on level terms before the hour mark as Mervan Celik scored on a deflected shot before Eugenio Togni's free kick evened the contest with 30 minutes to play.

However, it was Siena that found the winning goal in the last five minutes with Emeghara scoring on the break after Pescara had pushed men forward in search of three points.

The result leaves Pescara nine points from safety at the bottom of Serie A.
