Kansas City, MO – Russell Wilson made his case for Seattle's starting quarterback spot, as the rookie threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns in the Seahawks' 44-14 preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wilson got the start in the team's third preseason game ahead of Matt Flynn, the club's most notable free-agent addition during the offseason, and played into the third quarter. He completed 13-of-19 passes while rushing for 58 yards on only two carries, while Flynn sat out with a sore elbow.
Wilson threw TD passes to Kellen Winslow and Charly Martin in the second quarter as the Seahawks rolled to a 23-7 halftime lead.
Robert Turbin, also a rookie, carried the ball 14 times for 93 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Seattle, which improved to 3-0 in exhibition play.
Earl Thomas returned a Matt Cassel interception 75 yards for a score, and Golden Tate ran a punt back 92 yards for a TD to cap the rout.
Cassel threw for 168 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-34 efficiency for the Chiefs, whose leading receiver, Dexter McCluster, caught seven passes for 61 yards and a score.
Jamaal Charles, trying to come back from a knee injury that cost him most of the 2011 season, ran for 32 yards on six carries in defeat. Nate Eachus totaled a game-high 98 rushing yards with a score on 10 carries.
