The Washington Nationals selected the contract of pitcher Mike Gonzalez from Triple-A Syracuse Sunday and optioned pitcher Ryan Perry to the minor league club.

The nine-year veteran signed a minor league deal with the Nats on May 8 and fired 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts in his only appearance at Syracuse.

The 34-year-old lefty, who underwent offseason knee surgery, spent time with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles in 2011 and sports a 2.94 earned run average with 412 strikeouts over 387 career appearances.

Perry, 25, appeared in seven games for the Nats, compiling a 1-0 record with a 10.13 ERA.

Washington also transferred pitcher Drew Storen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
