A CNN political reporter last week tweeted a link to a fundraising page for the Obama campaign -- one selling tickets for as much as $5,000 for a Milwaukee, Wis., reception.

The first half of the tweet was a just-the-facts statement about Wisconsin emerging as a full-fledged battleground state.

“Wisconsin officially a battleground: President Barack Obama going to Milwaukee next weekend,” reporter Peter Hamby wrote on his Twitter account Thursday.

The tweet, though, ended with a link to a donation page asking people to buy tickets -- ranging from $250 to $5,000 a person -- to an event this coming Saturday at the Milwaukee Theater.

"Please join President Barack Obama for a reception with supporters like you in Milwaukee," the donation page says.

Hamby, though, said it was not his intention to direct people to the donation page. Rather, he said he tweeted the page because it offered evidence that the Obama campaign was indeed competing for Wisconsin.

CNN did not respond Monday morning to a request for an explanation about the tweet or whether the cable network has taken any action in response to it.
