Cheney Released From Hospital After Heart Attack

Former Vice President Dick Cheney exited George Washington University Hospital Wednesday morning after suffering a minor heart attack two days earlier.

"Former Vice President Cheney is feeling good this morning and was discharged from GWU Hospital. He will resume his normal schedule shortly," his office said in a statement.

Cheney did cancel his appearance at a Friday breakfast scheduled as a reunion for former Bush administration officials. Former President George W. Bush and Cheney were supposed to reunite there in their first face-to-face meeting since leaving the White House. Bush is still expected to attend.

Cheney was admitted Monday night after experiencing chest pains. He has a history of heart problems, including four heart attacks starting at age 37.

Cheney had bypass surgery in 1988, as well as two later angioplasties to clear narrowed coronary arteries, and bypasses tend to last about a decade before the rerouted blood vessels start to clog.

In 2001, he had a special pacemaker implanted in his chest. In addition, doctors in 2008 restored a normal rhythm to his heart with an electric shock.
