UNESCO adds 21 new sites to World Heritage List after meeting in Brazil, brings total to 911

SAO PAULO (AP) — UNESCO has added 21 new sites to its World Heritage List, bringing the total to 911.

Among the sites added after a 10-day meeting in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia were the Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long-Hanoi in Vietnam and the historic villages of Hahoe and Yangdong in South Korea.

Also included were the Episcopal city of Albi in France, the prehistoric caves of Yagul and Mitla in Mexico, the historic monuments of Dengfeng in China, and the 17th-century canal ring in Amsterdam.

The Everglades National Park in the United States was added to UNESCO's list of sites in danger, while the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador was removed from it.

UNESCO said Wednesday the next meeting will be in 2011 in Bahrain.
