THE VERDICT ON GORSUCH IS (ALMOST) IN
We are approaching the finish line in the Senate hearings on whether President Trump’s pick to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court will be confirmed. Here’s what happens next: The Senate will meet on Wednesday to continue the debate on Gorsuch. Senate Democrats—who don’t approve of Gorsuch—have enough support to filibuster. But Republicans can decide to go nuclear and change the law to make Gorsuch’s confirmation hinge on a simple majority. In that case, Gorsuch has the votes needed. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Fox News’ “The First 100 Days” Tuesday that the decision to use the rule change is in response to Democrats “breaking the rules of the Senate” in 2013. PEPSI COMMERCIAL MISS?
A new Pepsi commercial featuring Kendall Jenner as a soda-wielding protester garnered online backlash as some denounced the advertisement as appropriation for the Black Lives Matter movement. The “Live for Now Moments” video released Tuesday shows Jenner going from platinum-wigged celebrity to concerned protester and eventually handing a police officer on the demonstration line a can of Pepsi. He takes a swig, and then grins as Jenner dances off with fellow demonstrators.
House Republicans were noncommittal late Tuesday after about two dozen of them met with Vice President Mike Pence in an effort to resurrect the failed plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
