TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A Honduran man on death row for a double murder in central Florida has been granted a retrial based on new evidence, including comments a woman made to a friend and neighbors that she's the actual killer.
The state Supreme Court ordered the new trial Thursday for Celemente Aguirre-Jarquin. Justices say DNA tested after the trial showed Samantha Williams' blood was at the scene where her mother and grandmother were found in 2004.
Aguirre's clothes, soaked in the victims' blood, were found in a bag in his trailer. He says he found the bodies when he went into the home to get a beer and didn't call police because he was in the country illegally and didn't want to be deported.
