Officer critical after shooting near casino garage

A police officer remains critically injured and a suspect is dead after two officers saw a robbery being committed outside an Atlantic City casino garage and gunfire was exchanged.

Prosecutors say the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after the officers saw three men trying to rob three others near a parking garage at Caesars casino.

The wounded officer was shot and injured as he exited his vehicle. The second officer returned fire and struck one of the suspects, who was later found dead

Police have arrested 19-year-old Martell Chisholm of Millville and 28-year-old Demetrius Cross of Bridgeton in connection with the shooting. They're each charged with attempted murder, robbery and weapons offenses. The dead suspect is identified as 25-year-old Jerome Damon of Camden.

The wounded officer's name wasn't released.
