Police in Albuquerque have surrounded Civic Plaza and City Hall and locked down the City and County building over a possible hostage situation.

The situation reportedly has been ongoing since about 6 p.m. Monday.

Albuquerque police say at this point in time, there is no confirmation of an active shooter or that any shots were fired.

They say they're still trying to determine if there is a hostage situation as officers and 911 dispatchers are receiving conflicting information.

Police spokesman Mike Schroeder says information is limited at this time and people are being advised to avoid the area.

City Hall houses both city and county government officials.
