Three people – including one child – were killed early Wednesday morning when their disabled vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer in New York, a state police spokesperson told News 12.

The accident occurred in Orange County around 4 a.m. on the westbound side of I-84.

It was not immediately clear if the car was disabled in a lane of traffic or on the shoulder of the highway when it was hit.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, ABC7 reported.

The westbound lanes of the highway between exits 2 and 3 were closed for several hours Wednesday morning while authorities investigated.
