Authorities say a man has been shot by a central Georgia sheriff's deputy while the deputy was investigating an earlier shooting.

The Telegraph of Macon (http://bit.ly/20Ssj0W ) reports that 28-year-old Nicholas Coker told investigators early Tuesday that he had shot at his stepfather Lonnie Shaw's Fort Valley house.

When Peach County deputies arrived at the stepfather's house shortly afterward, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent J.T. Ricketson says Shaw answered the door but refused to drop his pistol.

Ricketson says the deputies "felt threatened" and one of the deputies shot Shaw once in the upper torso, wounding him.

Randy Shaw, Lonnie Shaw's brother, says it wasn't unusual for his brother to answer the door toting his pistol at such a late hour.

Sheriff Terry Deese says the GBI is independently investigating the case. The races of those involved weren't immediately known.
