HOUSTON – Houston police say a man questioned in the shooting of a Texas deputy constable has been ruled out as a suspect in an attack authorities have described as an ambush.
Police spokesman Victor Senties (Sen-TEE'-us) says detectives are still hunting for the gunman who seriously injured Harris County Deputy Constable Alden Clopton.
A man showed up at a fire station near the scene of Clopton's shooting Wednesday night south of downtown Houston carrying a gun magazine. He later told investigators he had a gun before arriving at the station.
Senties said Friday that the man has been charged with being a felon in possession but that his case is not related to Clopton's shooting.
Doctors have said Clopton suffered six wounds to his chest and abdomen and should fully recover.
