The buzzer has sounded to end the season for two Indianapolis high school girls basketball teams after the programs were involved in a massive benches-clearing brawl Saturday that was captured on video.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association on Monday cancelled the rest of the season for Pike High School and Ben Davis High School, FOX59 reported.

The punishment also includes both teams forfeiting the outcome of the game and neither team being eligible for the state tournament. Players will have to take a sportsmanship class and coaches must complete a behavior and role model course. The teams also will be on probation next season.

“I know that everyone has seen the video and there is going to be the day that somebody gets catastrophically injured,” IHSAA commissioner Bobby Cox said.

The fight began after a player was fouled during the fourth quarter with Pike leading 57-41. Several fans appeared to rush the court during the melee.

“It was an event that was unacceptable,” Cox said. “It was egregious. It was violent. And it has been dealt with.”
