Authorities are working to identify the badly decomposed body of a young woman found by a hiker in a state park in Pennsylvania on New Year's Day.

Trooper John O'Donnell said the unidentified victim is a tall, slender white female in her late teens or early 20s. Police believe she had been dead for several months before her body was found at Ridley Creek State Park in Delaware County.

O'Donnell told The Philadelphia Inquirer that some clothing was also found on the "skeletonized" body. He said the body was found Friday off the trail, in a wooded section of the 2,600-acre park.

The case is being investigated by state police in Media, Pa.

The body is undergoing an autopsy to determine a cause of death, according to the newspaper. Police also are reviewing missing persons records.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call police at 484-840-1000.
