Michigan state police say a family of four has been found dead in their northern Michigan home.

Troopers with the Cadillac post have identified the dead as 54-year-old Jeffrey Allan Mendenhall, 34-year-old Tamisha Marie Mendenhall, and their children, 6-year-old Thomas and 3-year-old Olivia.

Police said in a statement Friday that a co-worker asked officers to check on the family after Jeffrey Mendenhall missed work for a couple of days and no one could reach him.

When troopers reached the home in Grand Traverse County's Garfield Township, it was dark and no one responded to knocks. Troopers forced open the door Thursday night and found the family dead inside.

Police say the cause of their deaths remains under investigation pending autopsies, but there's no reason for concern about public safety.
